Don Schwamb recieves FDU's Volunteer of the Year Award

During this year's Homecoming weekend, Fairleigh Dickinson University honored Don Schwamb with the Volunteer of the Year Award. The honor was bestowed upon Schwamb for his devotion to revitalizing the FDU Knights men’s basketball program.

The award is presented by the Alumni Association to an alumnus/alumna who has made significant contributions to one or more of the following areas at FDU: admissions, career development, chapters, academic programs, student life, chapters, fundraising for athletics.

Volunteering has held a special place in Schwamb’s heart, especially in the name of furthering sports. In the spirit of giving back to his alma mater, he has dedicated countless hours and his wealth of business knowledge to assisting the Knights men’s basketball program with fundraising efforts, marketing, and enhancement of the program itself. He proudly supports all of Knights athletics, and his passion for ensuring the success of student athletes and coaches has made a huge impact.

Schwamb graduated from FDU in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He attended the University on a basketball scholarship and played on the Knights men’s basketball team. Since then, he has intricately weaved sports into his professional life, having worked in a number companies producing athletic apparel. His past positions include those of buyer of sporting goods for Bloomingdales, merchandise manager for McGregor-Doniger Inc., vice president of Spinnerin Yarn Company, CEO of Bogner of America, and franchisee of the first Callahan’s in N.J.

Schwamb resides in Park Ridge, N.J. with his high school sweetheart and wife of 53 years, JoAnn. During his leisure time, he enjoys playing golf, skiing, and spending time with his three grandchildren.

The award ceremony was held at FDU's Florham Campus on Saturday, October 17th, 2015, in conjunction with the University's Annual Homecoming/Family Weekend.
