Quaneshia Harris honored by NJ Senate for winning national basketball championship

2014 Jun 19

As a member of the first team from New Jersey to ever win a national collegiate basketball championship -- the 2013-2014 Fairleigh Dickinson University Devils women's basketball team -- Quaneshia Harris, of Trenton, NJ, was recognized and lauded on the floor of the state Senate chambers at noon on Thursday, June 19, 2014.

Former New Jersey Gov. Dick Codey read a joint resolution of the New Jersey Legislature honoring the team members and coaches. Eleven of the 12 players hail from New Jersey.

Codey said, "They have achieved something that no other New Jersey basketball program has. They are hard working student athletes who not only have excelled in the classroom but have reached the pinnacle in college sports. These FDU women of New Jersey are fabulous."

Earlier this spring in March, the FDU women won the Division III championship, going undefeated in a 33-0 season. They beat Tufts University of Medford, Mass. in the semi-final matchup (42-39) and Whitman College of Walla, Walla, Washington in the final game (80-72).
