Utsarga Robbins wins chance to qualify for International Chemistry Olympiad

The North Jersey Section of the American Chemical Society is proud to announce that Utsarga Robbins of South Brunswick High School has won the chance to qualify for the International Chemistry Olympiad. Robbins will take a national exam to qulaify to become a member of the US National Chemistry Olympiad team that will compete in the 43rd International Chemistry Olympiad in (IChO) Ankara, Turkey, July 9-18, 2011. Robbins is one of 15 local nominees and 1,000 nationwide that will take the qualifying exam.

The IChO involves a series of theoretical exams, laboratory exercies, and other activities aimed at identifying the best chemistry students from participating nations from around the world. The US has participated in this event since 1984. In 2010, the US team won several medals, including two gold, once silver, and one bronze.

Founded in 1876 and chartered by Congress, the American Chemical Society is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to the advancement of chemistry in the public interest.
