Founded in 1989, the Chi Alpha Epsilon honor society was organized to acknowledge the continuing success of students. Its purpose is to promote continued high academic standards, foster increased communication among its members, and honor the academic excellence of those students admitted to college via developmental or Higher Education Opportunity- type programs.

Membership into Chi Alpha Epsilon is offered to eligible students and alumni through local campus chapters. Students who maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA for two consecutive, full time semesters are eligible for membership.

All members are encouraged to strive for Jewel Membership. A Ruby Jewel is bestowed upon members who achieve a 3.5 - 3.74 semester GPA. An Emerald Jewel is the reward for a semester average of 3.75 - 3.99. A Diamond Jewel is for members who achieve a perfect 4.0-semester average.
